Graduation hit the Maple Grove girls’ soccer team hard, but the Crimson will still be very competitive in 2019 because they welcome back many talented veterans and newcomers.
“We lost seven starters who combined for 25 seasons of starting soccer,” Crimson coach Ben LeVahn said. “We led Class AA in goals scored and had one of the lowest goals against in the state. There are talented players returning but the unknown is who is going to step into the leadership roles on and off the field.”
LeVahn welcomes back a solid nucleus of players who played big minutes during last year’s run toward the state tournament. Key returners are senior defender Abby Schulte (all-conference honorable mentions, 9 goals, 3 assists), senior midfielder Lauren Bredensteiner (all-conference honorable mentions, 2 goals, 7 assists), senior midfielder Hannah Zahn (all-conference honorable mentions), junior forwards Kelley Kloncz (8 goals, 10 assists) and Emma Fournier (6 goals, 6 assists), senior midfielder Luca Ralph and senior goalies Martha Schmid and Sarah Cortez….
