The Turkey Trot tournament is billed as an early-season gathering of some of the state’s top hockey teams.

Edina entered the field ranked No. 2 in the Class 2A state coaches’ preseason poll, coming off a third-place performance at state last season. Maple Grove came in with a roster made up half of underclassmen and off a season where the Crimson finished a game over .500.

Edina’s probably still one of the top teams in the state. And after Maple Grove earned what’s officially a 3-3 tie, but ended with a shootout win for the Turkey Trot title, maybe the Crimson can work their way into that discussion, too….
