The Maple Grove Girls Swim and Dive team had five swimmers compete at the State Swim meet on Thursday, November 15th held at the University of Minnesota. This was Junior Abbey Cornelius’ third year swimming at the State meet. She placed 26th in the 200 Free with a time of 2:00.31 and placed 22nd in the 500 Free with a time of 5:16.31. “It was an amazing experience to have so many Crimson girls swim at State this year. I cherish the memories that were made; however, I can’t wait to get back in the pool next season,” said Cornelius about her experience swimming at the State meet.
Freshman Caitlin Aarseth also swam in the 500 Free and dropped over three seconds from the Section meet last week to finish in 24th with a time of 5:21.39. Another freshman, Lily Chabica swam the grueling 200 Individual Medley where she placed 34th with a time of 2:15.01 while sophomore sprinter Maddi Bast placed 20th in the 50 Free with a time of 24.62.
The 400 Free Relay team of sophomore Elizabeth Altman, Cornelius, Aarseth, and Bast finshed up the night’s events with a 19th place finish in a time of 3:43.97.
