Crimson News · Boys Basketball: Complete sweep of Armstrong, record at 14-5

Maple Grove used a second-half surge to blow open a tight game and defeat Robbinsdale Armstrong 70-50 Monday night at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School.

Trailing by as much as 12 in the first half, Armstrong made a late first-half surge to cut the margin to 36-31 at halftime. In the second half, with leading scorer Jared Rainey on the bench with four fouls, the Crimson struggled to find a rhythm and held a slim 48-44 lead with 9:13 remaining in the game.

But much as they did Friday against Spring Lake Park, Maple Grove locked down on defense and controlled the boards to go on a 22-6 run the rest of the way to reach the final 20-point margin.

Junior Nate Adams led the Crimson scoring attack with four 3 pointers, finishing with 19 points and 5 rebounds on the game. Senior Alex Battist was right behind with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Kyle Dreyer (pictured above) finished with 11 points, and Jordan Stensland rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and 5 rebounds…
