The field has been set for the 2016 Class 6A Football Tournament. Under the new format that began last year, the largest schools in the state were placed in a 32 team field and seeded by section, then were randomly placed into eight team brackets.
Maple Grove: (6-2) #2 seed Section 5
The Crimson were seeded number two in Section 5 and will open the playoffs at home against Roseville on Friday, Oct. 28. Maple Grove is assured two home games if they defeat Roseville and would take on the winner of the Edina and Eastview match up. The eight team field includes Eden Prairie and Edina, the two teams that defeated the Crimson in the regular season.
The rest of the field:
1- Eden Prairie
2- Maple Grove
4- Cretin-Derham Hall
The Road to State:
By not securing a number one seed, the Crimson’s road to the state semifinals are a bit more challenging. Matt Lombardi’s team will likely have to defeat Edina in the second round, in order to get to Eden Prairie. The Hornets defeated Maple Grove 21-20 early in the season. They would then face the winner of the Eden Prairie and Cretin-Derham Hall game for the right to play at US Bank in the semifinals.
